Advance voting opens Wednesday for city hall — then British Columbians vote again for the province on October 24. |

The quick read: Advance voting in Kelowna's municipal election opens Wednesday, October 7. Kelowna advance polls run October 7–16; West Kelowna's are October 7, 13 and 15, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. General Voting Day is Saturday, October 17. Then British Columbians vote again on Saturday, October 24 for the snap provincial election.
The polls open tomorrow morning, and Kelowna voters have two elections to decide in seventeen days.
Wednesday, October 7 is the first advance voting day in the municipal election, with advance polls running through October 16 at locations across the city, according to the City of Kelowna.
Chief Election Officer Michael Jud says the city wants voting "as accessible and convenient as possible," with mail ballots, curbside voting, and a voter assist terminal at Parkinson Recreation Centre for electors with differing abilities.
General Voting Day is Saturday, October 17, when Kelowna voters elect a mayor and eight councillors.
Eleven of the official council candidates are women, according to the Okanagan Echo's civic series — the field is wide, so do your homework before you mark the ballot.
West Kelowna voters get advance polls at City Hall's Council Chamber on October 7, 13 and 15, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Mail-in voters should not dawdle: completed ballots must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 8 p.m. on October 17, and Canada Post only delivers on weekdays.
Then you do it all again: British Columbians head back to the polls a week later, on Saturday, October 24, for the snap provincial election.
Elections BC says provincial advance voting runs October 16 through 21, and the deadline to request a mail ballot is October 18.
The conservative read: municipal turnout is usually embarrassingly low, yet it is council — not Victoria — that sets your property taxes, your water rates, and what gets built next to your street.
The provincial race gets the headlines, but city hall hits your wallet harder and faster.
Show up twice this October: once for the street you live on, and once for the province.
