The quick read: The Kelowna Rockets wrap up their five-game homestand Wednesday night when the Portland Winterhawks return to Prospera Place for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. Kelowna has points in five straight games and hasn't lost in regulation during the stand — and it's a rematch just six days after Tomas Poletin's overtime winner downed Portland 3-2.

The Rockets have been quietly building something at Prospera Place.

After splitting the opening stretch, Kelowna sits at 4-2-2-1 with points in five consecutive games — and through the first four games of a five-game homestand, they are 2-0-1-1, unbeaten in regulation on home ice.

Wednesday's game against Portland is the finale. Win it, and the homestand ends the way it should: loud.

Friday: Poletin plays hero

The two teams have history this week already. Last Friday, the Rockets beat these same Winterhawks 3-2 in overtime, with Tomas Poletin scoring twice — including the overtime winner.

Saturday brought a different kind of drama: Kelowna rallied to force overtime against the Prince George Cougars before falling 4-3 in a shootout.

Colton Lien, Jakub Frolo and Eli Barrett scored for Kelowna, while Harrison Boettiger made 19 saves to keep the point streak alive.

The kids are producing

The club's early scoring leaders tell the story of a team getting contributions up and down the lineup: Madden Daneault with 3 goals and 7 assists, Owen Folstrom with 2 goals and 4 assists, and Jakub Frolo with a goal and 4 assists.

There is fresh NHL energy in the room, too. Forward Carson Wetsch was reassigned from the San Jose Sharks after appearing in one preseason game, leaving Tij Iginla as the only Rocket still on an NHL preseason roster.

What to watch Wednesday

Portland is at the tail end of a six-game road trip and closes it out with back-to-back games in Spokane on the weekend — so Wednesday is their last shot at Kelowna before they move on.

Expect the Winterhawks to come out hard. They lost the last one in overtime and know the Rockets can't be handed another home-ice point.

Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at Prospera Place. If the homestand's first four games are any indication, it's worth the trip downtown.
