A Kelowna metal band just won best in the west.
Freeze the Fall has taken home Metal & Hard Music Artist of the Year at the 2026 Western Canadian Music Awards, announced at this year's BreakOut West in Victoria.
The Kelowna crew beat out a stacked field that included Vancouver's Archspire, Saskatchewan's Blue Youth, Gnarwhal of the Northwest Territories, and Alberta's Valley of Despair.
It's a big moment for a scene that has been grinding it out in Okanagan venues for years with a fraction of the attention the region's wine and winery crowd gets.
No grants made this band.
Loud rooms, loyal fans, and a lot of unpaid hours did.
And now the hometown gets to celebrate properly.
Freeze the Fall plays Red Bird Brewing on Saturday, October 17 — a homecoming show with a trophy in hand.
It shares the date with Kelowna's municipal election, so plan your day: ballot box, then the loud box.
Nothing says local pride like a hometown show with an award on the shelf.
